Google’s Chromebook – Nothing but Net! (Internet that is)

I know its not Thursday but tech waits for no man! I’ve been on the road doing the iStandard thing and my 2ew Gunn Ciz, the illest artist alive thing so I apologize for the hiatus on the blog thing and in particular the tech thing.

The Cloud concept is not new. Many of us have been using the cloud for a long time. The sudden need to have information sync in the cloud for access from different locations without physically transferring or emailing data is evident in all the new products and services offered by major media and computer companies based on the cloud. Apple Music, Amazon Music and Google Music as well as Netflix and Google Docs allow you to do something one place, get up and go and continue doing that same thing elsewhere. Its genius! Now close your eyes and imagine a laptop built specifically for cloud based applications. The laptop would be built around the fastest and most innovative web browser out and built on an open platform OS based on Linux. Ok, open them….

nothing but the web

Does this replace your laptop? Not yet. It would take alot for me to give up my glorious Macbook, but for those times when I just need to work on the go and hit my google docs and edit a few pics in picasa or wherever else and listen to soundcloud or google music, this will come in handy. They should be priced in the 350 to 500 range initially. They will come in wi-fi and 3g/4g versions. Oh and did I mention it boots up in 8 seconds? Yes 8 seconds! It goes right back to where to where you were. Amazing! Samsung and Acer are the current manufacturers and they will debut June 15th on Amazon.com. Thank me later!

Tech Thursday: NGP and Google TV

I had decided on sharing Google TV, which dropped today and would make a lovely gift for myself from anyone on Valentine’s Day(hint hint), with you guys this week then all of a sudden Sony holds a press conference and announces a project they call NGP or Next Generation Portable, the successor to the PSP and PSPGo. Sooo this Thursday I guess I will just put you on to both. I mean on the eastcoast we are snowed in so i have some extra time lol.

Let’s start with the NGP. Here’s the rundown according to Sony.

Revolutionary gaming experiences with dual analog sticks, front and rear cameras, front multi-touch display, multi-touch rear pad, GPS, SIXAXIS® motion sensors, and three-axis electronic compass.

Stunning multi-touch 5-inch Organic Light Emitting Display (OLED).

The richest, deepest and most engaging handheld gaming lineup – including Nathan Drake’s epic adventure in Uncharted Portable (working title).

Always On connectivity via Wi-Fi and 3G*

Location based gaming allowing players to find and meet friends virtually for brand new experiences.

Sounds pretty sweet right? I was a huge PSP fan. Cameras? Touch screen? Sweet! I guess this is the adult version of the DS series I was waiting on.

Now about this Google TV thing. Didn’t Apple have something called Apple TV years ago? Well yes it did, but it was simply the video portion of iTunes in a small box that looked like a mac mini for your TV. Shows were like 99 cents to view and you could get movies too. Google TV is something completely different. This ladies and gents is actual digital tv with channels and ads and such. You can either cop the tv with it built in from Sony (see a theme here?) or buy the box from Logitech called the Revue and hook it up to your existing tv.

PBS, USA, HBO, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, CNBC and more are going to be offered. Last I heard the 3 major networks blocked Google TV due to concerns over possible piracy and ad revenue. Obviously folks can watch whatever they want via the net already but we know how big business operates. Over time they will have to give in. Imagine if Google blocked them from their site? So anyway, DVR comes standard. I know you folks love to record The Game and American Idol haha. Best Buy has the Sony’s starting at $599 for a 24″ HDTV. They also have a Blu-Ray player with Wi-FI and Google TV built in for $399. You can Facebook and Twitter and surf the web to your hearts content while watching a show on a dual screen and the remote control is crazy! It reminds me of the remote Ox had in Belly minus the screen. It has a full Qwerty keypad plus all the regular remote control buttons. Neflix and Amazon Video On Demand are included with more to come. Basically TV meets a real web experience minus the clumsiness of Web TV (remember that?) in an HD experience. You can even upgrade your TV OS. The best thing about innovation is that it challenges and births more innovation so let us see what in the heck will they come up with next?

I wish all my Eastcoasters well wishes in this blizzard. Check on the babies and old folks. I’ll catch y’all next time!
