As an American citizen and an avid supporter of Soccer and our US team I have to hit the dislike button on Koman Coulibaly of Mali, for the worst display of officiating I have ever witness in all my years of watching badly officiated sports contests. From the start of the match I could tell this guy might be a problem. He was slow on the pitch getting around and often behind plays. He made terrible calls including a handball call on Robbie Findley in the penalty area with the US threatening to equalize down only 1. The ball clearly hits Robbie in the face. Instead of a decent scoring chance the call is made and Slovenia come down and score another goal to make it 2-0. It was also Robbie’s second yellow card, thus making him ineligible for the final Group Stage match. His foul calls or lack thereof were blatant and terrible. By the time the US fought back to tie the match, I had forgotten about Coulibaly in all my excitement, but he brought the focus back on himself with a horrendous call. Landon Donovan lined up for a corner kick. Both teams are in position and Maurice Edu breaks free unmarked and scores. Every US player besides Edu and Dempsey were held. Bradley was bear-hugged and Bocanegra was tackled. Coulibaly had his whistle already in his mouth waiting to blow it from 5 yards behind the play. Several replays show no possible US infraction and at least 3 possible Slovenian infractions. The worst possible thing in sports is when the officials become a factor in the match. Their job is to referee, not to be the deciding parties on wins, loses, and draws.

Also I would like to give shoutouts to the Slovenians who flopped more than Vlade Divac, Pau Gasol, and Cristiano Ronaldo combined. (i’m a Ronaldo fan so shut up) They whined and complained and stayed on the ground in fake agony the entire match. They went so far as to bring a stretcher out for a guy who simply fell on top of Dempsey at the end of the match to run out the added time. Of course Coulibaly called the match over after they took all the time getting this guy off the field. After halftime they were scared and they wanted to get off the field with points by any means necessary. In America we call you cowards. I’d implore someone to investigate Coulibaly for suspicious wire transfers because this one was fishy. FIFA won’t do anything because they never do. Ask Thierry Henry, Les Blues and the poor Irish about that.

At least Algeria drew England. We beat them and we advance.
